Perhaps the only negative aspect of owning a BMW in the past was mediocre audio. My first 3 Bimmers (mid-80's to mid-90's) had stereos which were barely passable. My 97 M3 with the HK upgrade was an improvement and fairly good but nothing that would scare Lexus or Jag.
I've read the Logic 7 system is really good and can compete with the others (Acura's ELS, Nissan's Rockford-Fosgate and Lexus' Mark Levinson) as true premium sound. However, when I've been by the dealer re ordering, I'm so busy thinking about colors and packages (since the Logic 7 is standard in the 330) that I forget to sample the sound in a 5 or 7. Has anyone heard the Logic 7? Is it really something we can get excited about?

Before I heard it I read some articles about the Logic7 surround system (patented and manufactured for BMW by Harman/Kardon). I had great expectations when I went to the dealer with my sample CD to check it out on the 745.
Unfortunately, to my surprise, the system did not seem to sound so amazing. I couldn't hear that famous separation of instruments into layers. I might have had not the best CD for that but I had quite an impatient dealer so I was unable to do more testing. I admit that when the effect of Logic7 was decreased (it has about 10 levels), the music sounded quite poor. There was not much bass either, even when I increased the bass setting to the maximum (is it enough to say that my old Pontiac with standard sound has stronger bass?).
At any rate, I am planning to give it another try. Perhaps I was doing something wrong  . My neighbor has 745 and tomorrow I will ask him if I can play some music in his car. I will get different CDs this time.

My dad has had several 745i's with the Logic 7 and it's the best stereo out of the many high-end luxury sedans I've listened to.
It has GREAT bass, unless you want sonically incorrect overboosted bass to shake the whole car.
This stereo is great for LISTENING to your music. Nice tight bass, and I remember the whole range being very perfect. The computer sound processing doesn't make it sound "computery" at all like some systems do. I really really like this system in the 7 series and I am pretty sure it's going to be awesome in the 3.
