 325i vs 325 xi

Please give your inputs on both 325i and 325xi models. specially all the suggestions I can get will be appreciated. I am ready to purchase the car of my dreams right now, but can't make up my mind about i and xi . And I do know that xi won't be available till october ... Anyway, I live in upstate NY and I will be travelling 45 miles one way 5 days/week.
I am still not clear if just by putting snow tires on 325 i models will make the ride safer or atleast as par with 325xi with regular tires. And what about comparison between both i and xi with snow tires?
Any input?

I had the same question and decided the extra approx $1600 was worth the AWD. Alreading owning a AWD Honda CRV, which now my son drives, it is nothing short of awesome in snow and ice. Having family in Jamestown NY I know first hand what you are facing. My brother-in-law also owns an E40 RWD in NJ and he uses it for ice skating each winter even with snow tires. There will be many that disagree with me but from my experience, the xi with no doubts.

Well... I just put in an order for a 325I not XI and I live in Westchester County NY, I am hoping that I will get by with the RWD and some snow tires. I know a bunch of people that have RWD's in Rochester, NY (they get more snow than most can even imagine, I was there for a few years and could not wait to see the sun since winter started in sept. and ended in may)and they insist that with snow tires and not driving like a crazed person it does just fine! The DSC does a great job from what I gather with a good set of snows like the dunlop m3. I could not justify the price increase and performance degredation with the AWD. Plus it just looks jacked up. I also have the ability to drive the little ladies car (AUDI A4 Quattro) if the need be to get out in the snow, which is a MUCH better AWD system than the X-drive IMHO. Audi designs the car around the AWD not the AWD piece mealed into the car like BMW. Don't get me wrong if you must have a BMW and AWD go for it, but when I was going through the debate I said to myself what is BMW known for... RWD and not AWD, so I went with that. Hey just a matter of opinion I guess but that was my logic. Whatever your decision make it your own!! Good luck!

Either way it is a great car and your points are valid. Best to all of us whatever we order. Safe trails to you and your family.

Thanks people, I am placing an order for 325 XI tomorrow. Unless something else happens like some alien invasion or a coup by republicans or something. Wish me good luck :-)

ordered :-)

I got $1500 discount, and I am quite happy with the deal.

I wish they could offer the remote starter but the dealer said they are not offereing them on their cars .. is it true?

And i wanted Auto dim rear view mirror with compass .. for which the dealer said it cannot be done unless i get entire Premium package ...

Anyway, it is history, and now I can't wait for the car to arrive :-)
