I took delivery of my 6spd E90 325i two weeks ago. All has been great - basically no problems to report of *knock on wood*. I do have a question, though. If I drive through the city with the radio turned down, I can hear a whirr sound in the cabin when I'm riding along, not really heavy on the throttle. It's coming from the engine, but it sounds almost electronical. This is my first brand new car (my prior vehicle was a 98 integra stick) - so I'm not really worried that it's anything out of the ordinary. I'm just chalking it up to being a new car and it's a more modern engine and it's just it's "noise." (Obviously it won't be whisper quiet.) It's something that I won't hear if the radio is fairly loud. Maybe it's just a thing with me knowing its there so I notice it moreso...it's hard to explain.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

My car exhibit the same sound too. I kept telling my wife it sounds like we are driving an electric car. Not that it bothers me. Just wondering if its a problem. If not, I can live with it.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? | Just a guess here - could it be the water pump,  which is electric on the E90 vs. belt-driven on most (all?) other cars? Was it particularly hot, with stop & go traffic when you noticed the sound (causing extra water pumping)?

it the trans, I noticed it to. I posted is was noisy.

I have steptronic but I notice a whining sound sometimes when revving the engine. I guess its the flywheel or something spinning down and sometimes you can hear it over the engine noise
