First Acquaintance call to BMW assist. How does it work?

I read that after getting BMW assist, the sales persondid not walk me through calling BMW assist for the 1st time via the SOS button. Is there something I need to know before making that call on my own? Would I get charged for the call since its almost 2 weeks since the Assist was activated?

Hold the button for more than 2 seconds. Release when it illuminates. When the rep answers, just tell them you are making your initial call. Your salesman should have asked you to create a password. Need the password. They will ask you some info and the password. Call takes couple of minutes.

You deff. need the password... they will usually set this up while your there, but sadly... it doesn't always work out that way. Your sales person may not have set it up at all... it's not uncommon for it to get over looked. A simple reminder call will fix this. Then, as Obd said... hold the button down... there will be no charge of any kind. They will ask you for your C/C # in case you decide to call for directions or something that does have a cost. Currently this is optional... soon... very soon... this will be required in order for you to take advantage of your first free year. I believe that it becomes mandatory in Sept... but am only giving an educated guess. There has been no fixed date yet... only that it will happen in the near future.

I had the assist for 2 years and used it only once - when my battery died. Response was pretty quick, though.

And remember... you still get Roadside Assistance for 4yrs/50k even if you don't keep the "button" after the first year. The only difference is that you will need to call from your cell... and you will have to know where you are.

Of course, there is a lot more to BMW Assist then just the Roadside Assistance. Read about it... ask the operator on your orientation call lots of questions... it's actually a pretty cool service.
I used them for a flat tire not long ago... the dude was there in 10 minutes! VERY COOL!
