335 vs IS350
I have been a BMW cultist since the 70's. Other than a 5 year hiatus with a Carrera I have driven BMWs since 1978 and my '03 530i is number 6. I have had it four years now and I am just beginning to think about what comes next. I'm in no hurry and I could be a year or two from buying since the 5 is low mileage and a great car, but I like to take my time shopping and kick all the tires.
Over the years I've kicked the tires on MB, Infinity, Lexus, Saab etc, etc, but I've always gone back to BMW. I recently drove a 335 coupe and loved the performance. I found the style a little bland but that's not a deal breaker for me. A couple of days ago I drove the IS350 and all I can say is wow! No stick available but the power and response is such that I can live with that, and the styling and features, for less money (here in Canada anyway), make it a very attractive option. I probably iritated the salesman when I told him it drove like a BMW but it was meant as a compliment.
Can anybody direct me to good road tests/reviews/comparisons. Even just your personal feedback (only if you've driven both please) would be welcome.
Cheers,
Paul

Paul | Paul, the most important comparison is the one you already performed, i.e. from the seat of your pants.
Having driven the IS350 on a closed loop and on general roads, I must admit I wan't impressed. The acceleration in my '04 E46 330i ZHP was similiar and the handling and steering input were superior to the Lexus. Plus, I don't like Toyota/Lexus dashes/interiors and I'm not looking to have an equivalent electronic experience in the car as I do at home.
For me, it the drive. And not having a stick as an option, regardless of the car is an immediate deal breaker.
The 335 IMHO looks alot more aggressive, sexy and yes timeless. The IS350 already has started to look bland (In fact all the new era bimmers have aged exceptionally well since they bucked the norm/conservative tastes. Bangle is a genius... time to get ready for some serious ). Moreover, the suspension and handling are head and shoulders above. And that engine... all I can say is wow.
To date, there have been no head-to-head comparisons of the E92 335 against the IS350 and the like.
I would focus now on taking both cars out again and really doing more than pressing on the brakes and accelerator... take them to roads with a lot of elevation changes and turns and then decide. Whatever you choose, you'll be right.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ighlight=is350 | Thanks Ken. Very interesting reading. I think I probably have to drive both of them again bearing some of those comments in mind. I hadn't really tried to flog the IS350 as I had the 335.
