 MP3 or WMA?

What are your experiences playing either MP3 or WMA? Which is better?

Earlier on the forum somebody mentioned that WMA plays better than MP3:

I had a CD full of WMA which I tried today at the dealership but they sounded really quiet so I had to turn up the volume significantly. When I removed the CD, the radio appeared to be really loud. I did not have enough time to compare with MP3 though.

I would be very curious about your opinions since I am just preparing my CDs for ED

WMA's sound better than MP3's at the same bitrate ... ex. a 128kbps WMA will sound better than a 128kbps MP3. But once I start jacking up the bitrate, or using VBR, I can't tell the difference between the two. I usually encode my stuff at 256 min VBR or 320 VBR because I like the compatibility mp3 affords.

Loseless WMA is the way to go if you've got stuff that'll play it. No lossy compression, and it usually brings it down to 50%. I might make the switch pretty soon as my new home dvd player supports WMA and now you're saying the BMW radio supports it too. Any idea if it's WMA9 (for loseless support)?
