went to purchase my 330i/PP/SP yesterday and was shown a memo from BMW saying that there is a shortage on wood trim for the next production cycle. something about a problem with the supplier. has anyone else heard about this?

I find this very hard to believe. Wood trim should be one of the most easiest and cheapest accessories for BMW to obtain/provide.
This would be completely unacceptable to the customer base.

Genghis,
We were probably at the same dealership in Toronto. I did not see a memo the sales rep just told me they received a memo from BMW and when the exisitng inventory of the wood was gone only the aluminium would be available in the 330. I thought it was odd but I may order the aluminium anyways so I was not upset. Is this consistent with the memo you saw?

It sounds to me like the sales rep wants customers to feel like they shouldn't wait for wood supplies to become available again, but to place the aluminum trim 330 order. They can be very dishonest when all they want to do is move cars as soon as possible. There may be a delay, but trust me, there will be wood trim in 330s at some point again.
I once had a sales manager at Otto's BMW in PA try to locate a used 3 Series for me, and he proceeded to tell me that the sport package wasn't all that important, "just different trim items- that's all." He was also pushing me to get an automatic transmission since he knew they were less trouble for him to find. They are a very selfish group, car dealers are.
