Does one need Xi in the DC area?

I want the new E90, but don't know whether to get the Xi or just the i. I live in DC (actually Northern VA) and the winter here are relatively mild compared to the places like New England. I was wondering if anyone who lives in DC who owned BMWs or rear wheel drive cars had any opinions. Also, how would one do with All-seasons in the area?

BTW, does anyone know a good, trustworthy BMW auto shop in the area? Just want to know for the future after the warranty expires.

I live in the Northern VA too and was originally going to get the xi. There are about a dozen snow days that take them awhile before the snow plows make there way out. After some research and advice, I decide to go with the straight 330i (sports package too) and get winter tires with rims (tirerack.com). It's actually less expensive to get winter tires with rims than the AWD. Additionally, the you can't the sports suspension with the xi which I really wanted. There is some debate, however, the non-AWD with winter tires seems to be better than AWD with all-season tires in winter conditions. It will cost me about 1-2 hours twice a year to change the tires, however, now my tires will last twice as long also.

No. No need for the XI IMO. A good set of snows and proper driving techniques will do you more than fine. I do not think there is enough snow and inclimate winter weather to warrant an XI.

Ive been more than happy with my winter setup

Any tips on which dealers in the area are good? I live between BMW of Fairfax and BMW of Arlington. I wouldn't mind buying it in Maryland or something, but I would not really want to get the car serviced there. Can I buy it over there and service it in VA?

Yes, you can buy at one dealer and have it serviced by another. I got a good deal at Passport in MD. It seems to be fairly straightforward to get a $1000 - $2000 over invoice deal from them on a new e90. I've had a bad experience with Fairfax so I would not recommend them. PM me if you want some more details.

No.

My M3 is great in the snow. Just put some winter tires on and you're golden.
