 First-Year Glitch in NAV

My first flaw in my 2006 E90 has surfaced.

When navigating to a destination on the freeway the nav system frequently loses the position of the vehicle. Even with a clear view of the sky, no buildings around etc.

For example, if I was on the freeway going 70 mph, the guidance voice would state to take the next exit, when infact the real exit is approx 2 exits away. The nav system eventually catches on where the vehicles actual location is but usually it is too late, or has devised a new route . Very frustrating, I was planning to take a trip next weekend, but without the nav working properly it looks like the CLK500 will be going out of town with me instead.

Keep in mind that I was simply testing out the nav to get familiar with it, I was on familiar roads. I would have been even more frustrated if I actually went out of town and at that time discovered that the nav was on the blink.

Service appointment has been scheduled for Thurs June 23. Will keep the forum updated.

However, I still love my 2006 330i. Glitches such as these will be common in first model year runs of new models.

Thanks for the report. Is it possible it wasn't a glitch but rather just that the data was not good for that highway? Anyways, good luck getting it fixed!

Well my DVD nav disc is 02/2005 and the highways are clearly marked on the maps. The system just does not know where the car is actually located, loses the cars location then finds the car over and over, consistent and easily replicated. My city is in the "detailed" city list for the disc. This happens on the freeway as well as in town.

Hopefully my serivce appointment will shed some light on this issue. IMHO this is a flaw, if I was on unfamiliar roads the NAV would be useless in its current condition.

Looks more like a signal problem with the antenna than a software glitch.

I would hope that is true. Replacing the GPS antenna sounds like an easier fix.

I wouldn't care for a dump of the iDrive software and reloading a new version. Nothing else has surfaced or appears to be on the blink in iDrive. Everything else is very consistent in its operation, no flaws or problems elsewhere in the iDrive system.

I use to have a 2005 Acura TL with navi and experienced similar problems. I believe that navi problems stem from two main reasons:
-software glitches
-environmental interferences.

I personally think that this is more like a general issue rather than BMW specific issue but this is my 2 cents....
