Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost to add I-Drive to my car? I tried it out during a testdrive of a 5 and hated it. But after reading many posts about how little things such as adjusting the auto headlamp sensitivity and auto door locks can be done by those with I-Drive, I've become very jealous. I don't want to go the dealer to program little things like this. Is it possible or even worth it?

You have to re-order the car (From the pic in your signature I'm guessing you already took delivery so it's too late for that...). This is a factory option. I don't know about the implementation in the 5, but with the 3 iDrive also includes voice recognition so you can just speak some of the commands without removing your hands from the wheel or fiddling with the knob. However when you are in a menu where you want to adjust something, you need the controller again.

This is in no way a feasible retrofit. Buy a new car or become best buddies with the guy at the BMW service center.

I'd say get an aftermarket Nav...

A couple of reasons why you can't retrofit: iDrive requires a different double-hooded dash to accomodate the screen and a different center console for the controller knob.

But, never say never. I"m sure that before the e90 is out of production, someone will post about how they retrofitted i-drive.
