If the belt is not in, this thing is fairly persistent. Is there a away to disable this?

Disregarding the safety/legal aspect, if you have a low impact accident (i.e. fender bender) without seatbelts on, your airbags will deploy, where they otherwise deploy only for higher speed impacts only. This can be a considerable and preventable expense. Same goes for your front seat passenger. I always make sure I and my front seat passenger are buckled in before I move the car at all.

I can't even drive without buckling up! Its that much of a habit. I don't feel right if I don't feel "tucked in" by the seat belt.
