 Any downsides to non-metallic paint?

I'm now thinking of getting the e90 in electric red, thanks to a fellow-poster. I wasnt considering a non-metallic paint earlier because I thought metallic was always the way to go.

Would appreciate any input on the downsides of non-metallic paint.

I am leasing the car for 3 years and will likely not keep it at lease end. Thanks,

I'm curious too, as I'm getting Jet Black.

Can't think of any...outside of attracting extra attention (both wanted and unwanted) in red. I had a '95 M3 in Hellrot (bright red) and it never lost its luster in nearly a decade of ownership (and I'm not fanatical about waxing my cars).

After owning a Diamond Silver metallic VW GTI I swore I would never own a car with metalic paint. The car was broken in twice and the paint never matched after the repairs. I am told that the reason that is very hard to match metallic paint when the car is repainted is becuase the metallic flakes lay flat as opposed to the factory job where they stand up.

So both of my BMW's have been red, the 318ti was Hell Rot (Bright Red) and now Imola Red. The 318ti had the right side repainted after it was keyed. Sold it 4 years later and it was impossible to tell it had been repainted because both sides matched perfectly.

The only thing I noticed with non-metallic colors was that with time, they would tend to become flat and lose their shine. But I must specify I never had a car of a non-metallic color, and I don't know if BMW's paint job is better at avoiding this situation.

Thanks all for your input. I just emailed and left a vm with my CA asking if I could change the color to ER - hope I can, the monaco blue I have selected now seems more and more boring!

JRP, I've never owned a car in this vivid a color and hope it doesnt bring out the worst in cops and passersby. is hellrot the real name of a color?!
