 Couldn't accept car from dealership!!!!

I was supposed to be in my brand new, just off the boat, 325i, jet black, sand interior, idrive, nav system, sirius radio, premium package BMW right now but instead I am sitting here posting this.

At 5:00pm EST I walked into the dealership to accept delevery of my new car and then my salesmen hit me with the news. To set up the story, my car was manufactured without the sirius radio installed in it. When I purchased the car I purchased the sirius radio option so the dealership was installing it today before I was supposed to pick it up. Salesmen said should be no problem.

Well, as I have my hand on the door of the dealership, my salesmen called me and said, I wanted to catch you before you showed up. There is a problem with the car. I said I am at the dealership! He said come in we need to talk. No good coversation ever starts that way!

My salesmen said that when they installed the receiver for the satellite radio and then updated the software that it damaged something called the TCU and that they now need to get another TCU and then dump all the software of the car and reload from scratch! He said I could accept the car as it is. That the only thing that wasn't working on the car was the BMW assist and the satelite radio. I don't know...I just didn't want to accept a car that cost this much that wasn't perfect. So I kept the money I had in my pocket that was needed to complete the deal and told him to fix it!

AAARRGH! I am sooo upset. My salemens was very good about it. I know it wasn't his fault but...still hurts. I will now not be able to get the car until next weekend because I am traveling to the midwest. BOGUS!

TCU (trasmission control unit). If they need a new TCU then that car is not driveable. No of what he said makes sense to me.

So in the e90 the TCU controls only Satellite Radio and BMW Assist

Headlight functions are mainly now controlled by "Brake Calipers"

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get the car in perfect shape next week.

What is all that dumping software, reloading into another chip etc ... Sounds like Microsoft culture is creeping in to cars.

Soon there will be a CTRL-ALT-DEL button on the steering wheel to reboot the car if it stops in the middle of the freeway and someone will hack into your car and steal your address book from your bluetooth phone

I'm told that BMW hasn't even released the programming instructions yet for intregating the Sirius radio! No timeframe yet.

Hey it could be worse.

Bear with it. These kind of things happen especially with a new car model. That doesn't help though when you show up to pick up your dream car and something is wrong. If you have a good dealer they should get you taken care of as quickly as possible. In the end my experience turned out pretty good and I wound up with a good respect for BMW customer service. The difference between good and bad customer service is how they act when things go fubar.
