Older models to consider for the budget strapped?
Hey all,
So I came to this forum with the purpose of getting the opinions of some of the people who actually own BMWs...
Im a student, a Junior accounting major, and I've puttered around in my beater for quite awhile. Now, I have the opportunity to raise approximately 10k to use on a car, and there was no question I was going for a BMW.
So heres my question, in probably too many words.
If you were shopping for a used Bimmer, with under 10k in your pocket, are there any specific models you would be looking at? I've been considering going fairly old and high mileage and looking for an M3, and I've been in love with the 8 series since they first rolled out (I was a small child at the time heh). I've seen fairly high mileage M3s and 8's for under 10k. My main objective is to get something really fun to drive for the time being.
So now I turn it over to you guys, the experts. What would you guys be looking at?

$10,000 would get you 28 or so months of a decently equipped 2007 328i Sedan if you get it via European Delivery however.

A cursory look around the local craigslist has shown around alot of viable 318s and 528is from around 1995 on, most of the mileages around 100k, so I know its doable. I've squeezed 140 out of my camry so far, so I know the costs associated with dealing with an older car.
What is European Delivery?

What is European Delivery? | Woah there buddy, that is a camry, you have no idea the maitanence costs related with older BMWs and other European cars. In a sense, they are about the same as going into the back yard and burning a few thousand dollars every time you want to drive anywhere.
European delivery is where you get a few thousand off the price of your brand new BMW by going to the factory in Germany and picking up and driving it around, then it gets shipped to America and you take redelivery a few months later. Of course, it costs money to do this European delivery, sure you get free plane tickets and a few thou off the price of the car, but the money you save is used to pay for hotel and food, etc.

I think I covered most of the normal stuff
