My first instinct is to dismiss it as just a piece of BMW gimmickry. I really just want to turn the key, not fumble for some silly button.
What am I missing here? What is the rationale for the button?
How many people like the Start/Stop Engine Button and why???

I think most people agree- its stupid and annoying. As far as I can tell, they did it mostly to allow for "keyless go" feature where you can keep the key in your pocket and just press the "start" button to start the car. I'm sure the savings from not having a conventional lock cylinder also played into their decision. And, supposedly, not having said lock cylinder improves crash safety. And, of course, the usual "everyone else is doing it, so we better do it too".

Mercedes at least puts the start/stop button on the shift lever . . where it is easily accesssible. And they only put it on cars that have the keyless go option.
So far my only pet peeve on this fantastic looking vehicle. Should I assume that with run-flat tires, no spare tire is included?
