Poll: iDrive/Nav love it or leave it?
Quite a debate going on on the 3 series forum I would like to hear from the community particularly those that live with iDrive on a daily basis.
option #2 should read: I drive a BMW with iDrive, the NAV is just okay but the other features make it worth the cost.
And yes it is should be vehicle not vehcile

The good: 1. Clean dash design. 2. No more trips to the dealer to change car settings. 3. Complete integration of nav, stereo, phone, voice input, etc but see #6 below. 4. iDrive controller easier to reach & use compared to many other cars and no touch screen finger prints. 5. I like nav perspective and the full time map display option.
The bad: 1. Nav information doesn't have alphabetized list or name look up. My 2002 M5 nav did! Plus many other cars have selectable POI icons on the map. 2. Why require iDrive for the upper vent temp adjustment? I used that all the time in the M5, especially during change of season with cold mornings & warm afternoons. 3. Some menus are hard to navigate and too deep. Why have to push, twist, push, click, push, scroll, then click for some functions where a single push of a button would have done the same thing before? 4. Nav instructions are too intrusive. Why be told 4 times in a 1/2 mile to turn left? Turning voice off and watching the HUD is less annoying. 5. Voice input is almost a necessity to reduce frustration doing many simple things such as changing to the next CD. 6. The complete integration of systems makes it not an option to upgrade the stereo head unit. Thank goodness Logic-7 is a good start. Speakers, amps, etc can still be upgraded if wanting even better sound. 7. The iDrive force feedback is annoying. Scrollable lists are hard to use because of this. 8. The slow startup (often the stereo doesn't even play for 30 seconds) and slow operation at other times.
Overall the bad often out weighs the good.
The new iDrive programmable buttons will be an improvement but they should have gone just a bit further and have 10 buttons. Perfect for numeric entry plus you could have 4 user programmable and 6 that change based on the screen you're on (FM presets, CD selection, pertinent menu short cuts (eg EQ from stereo menus, POI popup when on Nav screens, etc).
