 Bimmer Cloning

Just read an article about how car theives in the US are stealing a car, then finding an identicle vehicle and reading the VIN through the windshield and then using the VIN when they sell it so the DMV does not flag it as a stolen car during the sale.

Any reason I shouldn't cover my VIN in my front windshield?

It would probably be harder to fully clone a BMW's VIN since it's electronically coded all over the place. One connection to a GT1 or such will likely prove which is which.

Regardless, covering the tag on the dash doesn't do much good if the thieves know that BMWs and MBs have the VIN printed under the rear license plate.

Hey! Learn something new everyday!

I guess I just don't want to make it easy if I don't have to.

Thanks for the info!
