 325 or 330

Newbe here. Looking for advise.

Hubby wants to order a 330i in Aug, he is waiting for the comfort access. Hasn't decided on a color yet, but knows how its wants it equiped. That being said a co-worker of his today said he had read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the new 3 series and that people should just get the 325i, still a fun drive, cheaper and not that much different also leatherette instead of leather. He was going over the paritcular options that he wants, (sp and pp, 6 speed) and I think he would be dissapointed if he didnt go with the 330i. We are both performance nuts. Anyone else see this article? I haven't read it myself. Sounds like the wall street journal is looking at it purely by economics and the coworker is implying that it would be a waste of money to go with the 330I. I personally doubt that. We will also be first time bimmer owners and will be doing the performance center delivery.

Sorry if this is a repeat, I tried to search to see if this had been addressed before, but searching 330I or 325I I get every post with 330 or 325 listed in it.

Just looking to reassure hubby that he is making the best choice, or get info from you guys if we should consider the 325i.
TIA!

Given that you're both performance nutcases (and I'm envious of your husband for that, btw ), I'd go for the 330i. The different gear ratios and extra hp and torque definitely make a difference, and if you're anything like me, you start out being satisfied and then want more performance. If you go for the 325i, you'll just wind up saying "I should have gotten the 330i". If the economics make sense to you, I'd go for the 330i. I wound up going for the 330i + sport package + heated seats and forgoing things like leather, premium package and so on just so that I could have the extra performance-oriented goodies the 330i provides.

It's funny...I faced the same dilemma not long ago and I ended up getting a new 525i!

Struggling with this too.

I plan on doing ED and when i outfit a 325i with items i view as "necessary" I'm not too far off the 330i's price.

325i - 25,645
Sport Package 1455
Power front seats 905
Leather 1320
Xenon 730
PDC 320
Metallic paint 430
Logic 7 1090
Shipping 695
grand total 32,590

330i - 30,720
Sport Package 1455
Power front seats - STD
Leather 1320
Xenon STD
PDC 320
Metallic Paint 430
Logic 7 STD
Shipping 695
Grand total 35,290

For $2700 more I get 18 inch rims, 40 more hp. Even if i subtract the stereo my savings is still only $3800. Can I live with 40 fewer hp when my current e46's 235 hp seems deficient? I don't think I can. Logic tells me to dump the stereo and leather. But what's 5k over 5 years...$83 a month.
