I just filled up today at a Shell station. I notice that the "Contains up to 10% ethanol" sticker was not on the pump. I just moved back in October, and have been using Exxon almost exclusively (convience). I know that Exxon has ethanol. On the drive home, I noticed better gas mileage and the car seemed to run better, but that may just be in my mind . Anybody know for sure whether Shell does not have ethanol? |

I have noticed the 10% stickers have gotten much smaller and are less prominently displayed. But, I don't think my Shell station uses a blend.

All the stations where I fill up, Chevron, Texaco and Shell, have signs that say "May contain up to 10%". I do not think you will get an increase in power but you will actually see a reduction in gas mileage with the use of ethanol.

Don't know specifically about Houston since I haven't had involvement with that market for a few years, but if Exxon or anyone else has a 10% ethanol blend, it's a pretty safe bet that it's because it is required, because blending with ethanol increases the cost of the product, and as you mentioned reduces gas mileage in cars. Safe to assume that the Shell station is also required to use an ethanol blend as well. Again, not familiar with the Houston market anywhere, so there could be a weird anomaly here.

Ethanol blended gasoline started appearing in Houston last summer in a effort to reduce the high smog levels.
