In a couple of years after I've bought my E90...

What are current (and future) buyers of the new E90 planning to do once the original run flat tires (RFTs) wear out? (That will be around 20-30K mi on the standard models, and about 8-12 K mi (+more?) with the Sport Pkg).

A) I’ll always replace them with what came stock from the factory. I’m prepared to pay around $1000-1500 for a set of these types of tires.
B) No way I’m spending that kind of money every two years just on tires (every year if I have the SP). I’m going with conventional tires, where I’ll have 25 times more options on tires and tire shops, ranging from $400 - $1200 depending on my tastes for performance, durability, ride quality, etc. I’ll have to make contingency plans to take up space in the trunk with a full size, a doughnut or a fix-a-flat can (+electric pump) and/or a combination of these depending on where I’m driving. I’m also prepared for whatever changes come along with conventional tires since the E90’s suspension was designed all along to accommodate RFTs.
C) I hadn’t thought about how expensive the non-covered maintenance of a new 3-series sedan will be. I’ve been on the fence on deciding which car brand to get, and this consideration is pushing me away from BMW and more towards brand-X.
D) What a great idea. I don’t care if I have to pay $400-600 to have a flat tire replaced if I get one, specially if I may even be able to let a week go by and still continue driving. If the probability of having to deal with a tire change on the spot decreases by an order of magnitude, I don’t mind spending the extra money every time I need to replace tires.
E) I don’t care about these considerations. I always lease and return the car before it’s time to deal with tire changes.
F) Do tires need to get replaced?

What's the difference about A and D?

You're right, they're about the same. Other than perhaps, if RFTs were still optional, some one would use conventional tires and pick A (albeit, spending less on tires). Others would pick D and spend what the person who picks A is now forced to spend.

Option G. Too busy driving it like I stole it. Assume prices come down and my income goes up. Won't give a darn.

A and D are the same answer, just worded different.

Ever try to change a tire on the side of interstate 95 or whatever major road runs through your town; have you ever taken a call from your wife and had to leave work to change her flat tire; miss an appointment because you had to change a tire; waited hours for roadside assistance; driven past an accident caused by loss of control because a tire blew-out?

Quit your whining. Right now the tires starting price from a dealership is $174, and I am sure that like all new technology the prices will be driven down with mass acceptance.

Also for those of you who haven't had the opportunity to drive an E90 with the factory tires and non-runflats, these cars do not feel as good with conventional tires on them. The chassis was built around runflat tires and does not react as you would like it to without them.

Great answer, wish you were my neighbor
