THe only thing about the E90 that grates on me (ordered one) is why BMW continues to use orange/red to illuminate everything. Its a harsh color on the eyes, (to me) ,cyan as in the IS seems to look light years (pun) better. Anyone else think that way ?

The amber interior lighting is a big selling point for me w/a BMW. I love it.

Actually I remember hearing/reading about this before and based on studies, amber is actually the best color to use for nighttime illumination in car instrument panels. Blue was the worst, something about it beign the most difficult to focus on quickly.
Although I don't remember the source, I think I agree. The blue looks awesome and I love how it looks but its not the easiest to read at a glance imho.

I also read somewhere that with the aging of the population that there was a color that was better for us old-timers to see with...might have been orange...

Quote: | amber is actually the best color to use for nighttime illumination in car instrument panels. | This is true. Is has to do with the way your eye works. The cones and rods (you remember all that stuff from biology right??) have a more difficult time adjusting from black to blue than they do from black to red. Think of it as a type of refocusing, but for color. Using red illumination allows for the eye to adjust quicker than other colors when glancing down at the gauges and then back to the night time road.
