I took delivery of my new 320d previous week. It's a "performance" line with a lot of goodies. It's about complete except for the leather and navigation. Now I've driven 1500kms with it and I can compare it with my e46 320d - 2002.
At a first glance: the massive, sculpted look (Artic Grey), really is a looker. The 17 inch rims with 7 spokes are magnificent. I was hesitating to get this combo, but it really is lookibng very nice. In direct comparison, the e46 now really is completly outdated!! The quality is present in the materials and the assembling, the ergonomics is a bit better than in the e46 (although not perfect yet). The car has a larger (wider) interior than the e46.
The package: it's complete, I only miss the navigation but it was too expensive. The airco, cruise control, sport suspension, bi-xenons, 17inch rims, park assistant, etc... is providing a pretty contained package. A lot of details have improved in regards to the e46.
Driving it: I have to confess that it was not love at first sight... meaning that the engine was not coming on strong. It's not overwhelming... it actually never is!! The steering is heavy at low speeds. You feel the road and it's not really comfortable. After a few hunderd kms, this feeling changed. It really is faster, it is much more refined. You hit the rpm limiter without hearing the engine (!) You can toss it around very sharp turns at low speed, really push it hard at high speeds. Guys, this car is really fun to drive. I'am hooked.
I just started dreaming of a 330d (to be released soon) with 231hp and 500Nm since yesterday!
