 Wheels, tires, canadian roads, etc...

I'm planning to buy an 325i in the next couple of weeks...

Since our roads are !"?"!&?!"& as it can be, I don't think so that I'll go with the sport package.. However I'm planning to keep the stock 16'' for winter driving (and in 1 or 2 years replace the stock bridgestone tires by winter tires of any kind). And get some new 17'' (or 18'') style 78 wheels + all-season tires for something like 3000$ CDN (same price as sport package).. Do I need to get run flat tires or can I go with regular tires ?

Regular tires are fine, and probably an improvement in both ride quality and handling. Mini and the BMW Z4 (among other cars) have used run flats in the past and a popular upgrade for enthusiasts is to immediately lose the run flats and put some "real tires" on the car.

That's funny, I was thinking the exact same thing tonight. Get the stock car, save the stock rims for winter, upgrade the summer wheels with regular tires, and sell the stock runflats online, or something to that effect. Or wear them down and save the last bit of tread for the return of the lease.

Regular tires are fine? Maybe.

BMW claims they've tuned the suspension for run-flat tires specifically so I'm not sure how it will feel with regular ones. Also, keep in mind there isn't a handy place to put a spare if you're going with regular tires.

Manufacturers always claim they tune the suspension to suit the OEM tires, and therefore some so-called experts say to always buy the OEM tires when you replace your tires. If you know anything about the E46, I'd say you were crazy if you were planning on buying the OEM Continentals for the life of the car. Enthusiasts always upgrade to stickier tires on their cars and their cars don't wind up flying off the road because they don't have OEM tires.

What would you possibly give up by going with a tire that has both better handling and a better ride?

As you say, though, the lack of a spare and a jack are the real problems. I don't know if there's a space to put a spare tire in the E90 and if there's a jack you can buy to put in the car for emergencies...but hey, that's for you E90 guys to worry about...I have a few years before I'm getting a new car.

Well my insurance company is providing me with free assistance anywhere in Canada or US in case of tire puncture, etc..

Besides that I've read somewhere that the tires for the canadian bimmer will be
all-season run-flat Turanza EL42 and summer run-flat Potenza RE050A

From what I've read on tire-rack from people who tried those turanza, they didnt liked it !!

Now I need to check how much a new set of those Potenzas 17'' or 18'' will cost..
