Bluetooth Phones
I am currently working in Germany and I ordered a 2006 325i (ZSP, ZCW, NAV, American Specs) and was told by the dealer that the German Bluetooth enabled phones are not compatible with the American Bluetooth specs. I was just wondering if anyone has tried using a German handy with their American spec BMW or knows why the two would not be compatible? Thanks.

Thanks. | The more likely explanation is that the dealer is wrong. Bluetooth is a universal standard. The only possible problem is that the frequencies used by phones for calling in Europe (GSM) are differerent than those used in the US (for GSM, and forget CDMA altogether). So you'll probably need to get a different phone when you come back to the US. Of course, many phone manufacturers make several versions of the same phone so that you can get a euro-model and later the equivalent US model.

I probably won't be returning to the States to live for another 3-5 years and I would like to take advantage of all the options that I paid for! I have the Motorola Razr V3 and I specifically got that phone becuase it is on the compatibility list put out by BMW. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply and giving me at least a little hope that when I pick up the car in July that my phone will work with it.

Anyway, thanks for the quick reply and giving me at least a little hope that when I pick up the car in July that my phone will work with it. | A RAZR V3 will work in both Europe (any GSM network) and in the US (with a GSM carrier such as Cingular, T*Mobile, etc.). If you have a "branded" phone (has a carrier name on the housing, or carrier-custom startup animations) you may need to get it "unlocked" (ask for "subsidy code") to use it on a different carrier.
| | Reply » Bluetooth Phones | Thanks. I am beginning to feel much better about this. I don't believe that the phone is "branded" in any fashion but I do have my service with T-Mobile. The next time I see our Telecom rep, I will ask about the "subsidy code". Thanks again for your help.

It should work flawlessly. I am trying to link my audiovox smt 5600 smartphone and it seemed to recognized the phone, but now what. How do I make a phone call through the car, or answer a call. The instruction manual excludes bluetooth information altogether.
