I have a 1998 Z3 and the battery died. I jumpstarted it and drove the car to get the battery charged up. I then restarted it to see if it charged and it started as hoped. However the next day the battery was dead again. So I did the same and again it started but it also would not start after a few hours sitting idle. My question is (1) Is the battery in need of replacement or is it something else? (2) Do I need a BMW battery or is there a good cheaper alternative? Thanks for your help. |

I'd say you need a new battery. Personally, I get about 5 years/battery, so you'd be on pace for your second replacement.
You don't need a BMW battery - if you use the search function you can find others that fit.

There is another company that makes BMW batteries, search for a battery post by me. They bought the operation from Douglas Battery, who used to make OEM batteries for BMW, here in the US.
