I am definitely interested in getting this car with navigation / Idrive, but I also want to have the ability to play mp3's. So this basically means that I will need the cd changer.
None of the demo e90's I saw had a cd changer installed (nor Idrive for that matter). I assumed the changer would be trunk mounted, but I didnt see a clear mounting location as is the case with the E46. To make matters even more confusing, the 3 series brochure they gave me says that the car is prewired for a glove compartment mounted CD changer.
So that leaves me with 2 questions:
1. Is the cd changer in the trunk or glove compartment (the glove compartment would be nice, but the space seems a bit small to mount there)?
2. Does the CD changer send ID3 tags (artist, song title) to the Idrive screen?

I have a European Right Hand Drive E90 with the BMW CD Changer.
I do not have IDrive.
The CD changer is in the boot. On Mine it is on the LHS, but I guess it is always on the opposite side of the toolkit.
I am not 100% sure if the I-Drive shows the MP3 tags, but I have seen a couple of pictures of an I-Drive screen showing what looked to be like MP3 tags. I will try to find them again.

Though I have received neither a confirmation, nor a denial of this fact, the BMW E90 online tour says that the Logic7 sound system comes with "a six-disc CD changer in the dash." What they mean by "in-dash" I am not sure. I am waiting to hear from my contact at BMW regarding this inquiry. Hope this helps a little.

Why do you need to play MP3s from a CDs? You can use the AUX input after copying the mp3s to any portable music player.

I'm facing the same thing since I really like having multiple CDs in general and I really like being able to play MP3s from a CD. I'd really really like to have an MP3 capable CD changer AND a fully integrated hard drive MP3 player (iPod if they must).

I am really looking for mp3 capability with the added convenience of being able to use the steering wheel controls and the viewing of ID3 tag information on the Idrive screen.
My plan would be to load 6 disks of mp3's, with each disk being a different musical genre. Then I could go for a month or more before having to change the cartridge as there would be well over 600 songs available. Then, the in-dash player would only be used for the occasional "regular" cd.
The aux input is a nice feature, but would still require using the controls from the portable mp3 player (as opposed to steering wheel controls).
