Are new BMWs really this fragile???
So I took my 3er into the dealer for an Inspection 1 (and they incidentally replaced the rear brake parts -- gotta love Full Maintenance) and they gave me a really nice X3 as a loaner for the day. I really liked the car...until I saw the warning sticker on the windshield: Important: Installation and operation of non-BMW approved accessories such as alarms, radios, amplifiers, radar detectors, tires, wheels, suspension components, brake dust shields, telephones (including the operation of any portable cellular phone from within the vehicle without using an externally mounted antenna) or transceiver equipment (eg. C.B., walkie-talkie, ham radio or similar) may cause extensive damage to the vehicle, compromise its safety, interfere with the vehicle's electrical systems or affect the validity of the BMW Limited Warranty. Refer to your Owner's Manual and see your authorized BMW dealer for additional information.
So using my Treo while in my BMW may break the car & void the warranty? Now, I realize this is probably BMWNA Legal playing cover-yer-ass, but this is plain embarassing. | | Reply » Are new BMWs really this fragile??? | to simply answer your question, no they are not this fragile.

Now, I realize this is probably BMWNA Legal playing cover-yer-ass, but this is plain embarassing. | I rather suspect you will find this in the owner's manual of any car sold in Amerika, the land where the answer to the question "what do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?" is "An excellent start."
...and no, bimmers aren't that fragile.

| | Reply » Are new BMWs really this fragile??? | Do you really think an airplane will crash if you use your cell phone? No, but I don't wanna find out.
