Buying a 2006 BMW, will keep it for 3-4 yrs, is CPO worth it?
Hi everyone, I'm looking at 2006 BMW e90s and wondering if a CPO is worth it. I've seen a couple that I've liked with in-service dates ranging from March-June 2006 so the original 4 yr/50K warranties should be good through March-June 2010. I will more than likely sell/trade the car around that expiration timeframe. Some of these cars are CPO and some aren't. Given my timeframe, does CPO really matter? Does CPO give me something that the original warranty doesn't? Thanks.

there are many advantages to a CPO BMW vs. a regular used car...even a used BMW. When you purchase a CPO BMW, the car has undergone a thorough inspection by the BMW certified techs. If the vehicle needs new tires, it gets new tires. If some other issue needs to be addressed, they take care of it. buying a CPO car gives not only you pease of mind, but you client advisor as well, because he/sh knows the car is in great shape and you won't be back to have something sorted out or fixed. i sell mainly new cars here, but when i do sell something used, i steer my customers toward either BMW or VW CPO cars because you just get so much more than on a non-cpo vehicle.

There is a value judgment to be made here. While CPO does provide peace of mind, it comes with a hefty price tag. Some have estimated it adds $4000 to $5000 to the price of the car (there are a lot of variables here). In addition, the CPO warranty is sometimes only as good as the dealer you get it from. Not to say that it won't be honored elsewhere, but don't expect the same level of service.
If you know a lot about cars and can inspect a used car throughout, you should be able to find a non-CPO vehicle at a much better price than a CPO vehicle. If you don't know cars (or someone who will inspect in detail for you) go CPO.
