I have yet to hear a single Ultimate Driving Machine enthusiast brag about their run flats. Unfortunately, they are standard on the 535i I'll be taking delivery on in a few months and there's really no way around it. I've never owned a pair, but I'm already under the impression that they'll need replacing in about 15K miles (if they don't get destroyed by a nail, first). I've heard they are loud and don't grip the road as well as a standard tire. I've also heard that they tend to "cup" in the middle (if the car isn't driven a lot), making them even louder.
Is there anyone out there who's happy with their run flats? I'm looking for some positive comments as the negative ones aren't too hard to find. I've never been too excited about spending more to get less.
Comments...?

Yes, they ruin the supple/sporty ride and make it harsh and uncomfortable in exchange for an event that will likely not happen unless you live in a pothole ridden area where you hit them every day.

To be honest I have not had one problem with my Bridgestones RFT. They are quiet, and they don't not feel any more harsh then other tires I've had. I have almost 12K on these tires that came on it from the factory and they still have well over 50% of the tread left. I do drive a bit sporty and spirited, but I do not drive around like I'm in a race every where. My only complaint is the replacement costs and no competition for a run flat in these sizes here in the US. I still carry and emergency air compressor and repair kit in case I catch a nail out in the middle of nowhere.

Run flats are okay, the ride is not too noticible for me. But I do miss the spare tire, but not the weight

Run-flats work fine for me. Downside is that they are bloody expensive --- so get the optional tyre and wheel insurance. If you are racing they aren't the best choice, but if not they do the job just fine.

I noticed a huge difference when I went from a 2005 645 (run-flats) to a 2006 M5 (standard tires). The M5 rode far better and quieter, IMHO.
