Its probably the "final stage resistor", a common failure in 5 and 7 series BMWs. It screws up the fan speeds. Its a relatively cheap part but you do have to tear into the dash so I'd recommend taking it to a dealer or an independent shop.

Is there a way to test that that is it before taking a part the dash?
Where in the dash is it located and what is the easy way to go at getting to it.

I can't help there. Mine failed under warrenty and was replaced by the dealer.

I had the same thing happen. In my case, it was the blower motor.

How do I test to find out which it is
