 E90 Technology Update (Autoweek)

Finally got to thumbing through the new Autoweek late last night. They have an article on technology vs the 3 Series:

Quote:
Apparently by heaping on stuff. If we had to characterize the new 330i with one word, it might be gizmo, though BMW probably prefers technology. Either way, we’re left to wonder how much technology is appropriate in a 3 Series, and if too much is bad for the enthusiast.

The good,
The suspension as usual will be the bench mark for balanced handling. The new six E52 engine sounds fantastic as you would expect from BMW and will certainly be top engine in its class.

"The engine sounds great, with an emphasis on clean mechanical noise from the engine bay rather than the tone of the muffler."
*note*
- I could never understand why some people install an aftermarket muffler that offers virtually no performance gain but drowns out the wonderful BMW six engine.

Even though the roads I drive are jam packed and never allow for cruise control, the radar-managed active cruise control sound like a good innovation and I like the idea of programmable steering wheel buttons.

The I can live with it,
Card-style key fob that slots in the dash, and a start button, two-stage LED brake lights and DSC thankfully can be deactivated.

The bad,
Active steering and idrive and SMG, I can option out... for now anyways.

For good or bad, BMW is determined to be an innovation leader not much anyone can do about this fact.

Quoting the article from AutoWeek:

"Production of U.S.-spec E90 sedans begins in March; dealers should be stocked by May. The SMG and Sport package won’t be available before September, and coupes are at least a year away"

How can sports package not available before September???? I mean, a lot of people here, including me have order the sports package and didn't receive any words from dealers regarding the availability of sports pack.

I'm hoping the comment about sport package not being available until later is incorrect. I have heard nothing from dealers about this. Seems almost impossible to launch the e90 without having the sports package...

Autoweek mentions that the E90 has led taillights. From the pics i have seen it doesnt appear so. Anyone know?

Also, there are 2 programmable buttons on the steering wheel like in the 7 series. In my 745 i have the one button programmed to the auto-park feature. Anyone know what can be programmed on the 3?
