Does anyone know if it is still the case for 2008 models that the key fob must be first inserted before you can start the engine? If this is the case, what is the benefit???
I am accustomed to keyless ignition in my Infiniti and I really like it (and was sure I would get it on my next car). I was hoping to order a 535i with this feature, but am now thinking otherwise -- especially since BMW charges so much more for it and it apparently doesn't do the main thing I want it to do.
Thanks for any responses!

Thanks for any responses! | Not sure why you say ,,still the case`` since it wasn´t the case for earlier models that you insert the fob.

He complains that this process (insert fob - push button) is no better (if not worse) than simply inserting a key and turning to start, and wonders why BMW would needlessly re-engineer this function.
I might agree with that analysis, but for CA-enabled BMWs, this isn't an issue. CA reduces the oh-so-difficult process of starting a car down to precisely one step: Push Button.
