| | Reply » Design wise, what's the least appealing series. | I think the ugly tree fell on all of the new BMWs. (except the e46 M3) And I voted with my wallet--buying an '05 E46 325iT for not all that much less than a new one. There's something afoot with German car design in general. The new Audis and VWs are hideous too. I think it hasn't fully hit Mercedes yet, but I'm sure it will. As for Chris Bangle, perhaps he should be working for Pixar. His Mini Traveler looks like it belongs in the cartoon movie Cars.

I might be a bit too conservative in styling, but I really love my E39. Of the current series, I like the front of the 6, kind of sleek and shark-like, but think the rear is a bit too exaggerated. I think it just goes downhill from the 6 and ends at the X3, my least favorite design.
Although it tends to make the car look a bit funny, I like the "flame inspired" Z4, but don't care for the tail-lights or back end styling. I really do not like many of the tail-lights on the new cars. I tend to agree that they tend to look cheap. I think that the lights should be utilitarian (don't make them too strange) and don't need to be slanted at some weird angle, etc. a la E60.
I suppose what I find least tasteful about the new designs is the interior design. I'm not going to turn this into an i-Drive pro/con discussion, but I really dislike having multiple humps on the dash. I much prefer the integrated design of Lexus or Acura with respect to the navigation system placement. Another peculiar aspects of the new designs, I think, is exemplified by the door handles on the E60, which are strange, slanted, wood trimmed handles. The interior door panels just look odd to me -- not very luxurious or ergonomic, two hallmarks of German design.
Just some random thoughts.

I find that slightly surprising since it has been out a few years and has had a chance to grow on people. I guess the rear end IS as bad as people say it is! The 5 trails only the X3 in lack of appeal.

best Allen | I did the same getting one of the very last e46's with the Performance Package before they went away forever.
