Any news on BMW dual clutch transmission, DSG, SMG replacement, etc.?
Searches at Bimmerfest and on the Internet in general seem to yield 5% information and 95% rumor regarding if/when/how BMW will replace its SMG transmission with some type of dual clutch system, similar to Audi's DSG. Can any of our more knowledgeable and "plugged in" posters shed light on BMW's plans here? Is there any hope for a dramatic improvement over SMG in the near future? Thanks.

BMW's latest transmission, a "dual clutch" design similar to Audi's DSG will debut in the next M3, some six months after that vehicle launches, perhaps as soon as 2008, no later than the summer of 2009.
SMG is dead as Dillinger.

Seriously, this would be good news. A dual clutch transmission and a sedan version of the M3? Two things I've been waiting for.

When is the question.

Rumor has it, the engineers reported too many reliability problems. The last thing I've heard that they are still working on it and it will definitely make it to the production.
