 5 series or 3 series

Hi,im 15 years old at the moment, but im getting my car now and putting it in my garage for lyk 2 years to fix up and make the interior look nice,im not going to no body work to the car as all BMW's look wickid. I can only spend about £7,000 which i think is about $12000,can anyone help me pick a 5 series or 3 series that would suit me,i dont want a M3 or M5 because the insurance is something like £8,000 if i turned 17 for my first car because it's got a powerful engine. Any suggestions please post here

One problem with the plan, even though I admire your advance planning.

By the time you start to drive, your car will be 2 years older.

BMWs aren´t cheap to repair and as they get older (and you are buying a used one), they will require more and more.

You are right re looks, they are wicked. But I´d wait.

I would go with a 3 series because they sell so many they are more reliable and cheaper to fix. What you should do is take your time and try to find the right car, an old car with low mileage that has been maintained and not wrecked. Find a private party, perhaps a retired person who has had the car a long time. DO NOT RUSH. I love BMWs and have owned them since 1980 but having said that if I was your father I would try to convince you that a car like a Toyota Corolla would be a much better choice. When my son was 17 I bought him that car and he drove it over 200,000 miles through university with very few problems. BMWs are not Toyotas when it comes to reliability and maintenance costs.
