Zurich Drop Off
I am set to ED on February 27, 06 and due to drop my new 750(i) in Zurich, Switzerland. Has anyone familiar with the Zurich drop off location? Has anyone dropped off their car in Zurich? Any tips you could give me on the Zurich location? Any contact name? The car will be then shipped to Southern California. Is there anything I could do now to contact Zurich and attempt to have them book space on a ship? Has any one who dropped of in Zurich received their car in Southern California? Anywhere else? I am trying to find out how long it really took to get the car released in the U.S. Any input will be highly appreciated! Giacomo | | Reply » Zurich Drop Off | Zurich is really easy. The location is easy to find - your Nav will take you straight there. Directly behind Gondrand is the Glattbrugg train station. Literally a 1 minute walk. Train fare directly to the airport or the the main train station in Zurich is about 2,90 CHF.
NJ will notify them of your dropoff date as part of the process. The only reason for you to contact them directly is if you need to change the date after it has been set.
No, they cannot book space on a ship ahead of time. Gondrand's only responsibility is to get the car to the port, where they turn it over to EH Harms.
Just picked up my car yesterday after dropping in Zurich. 6 weeks and 1 day from dropoff. 12 days from the time it hit port in NY. I'm not in CA, but if you read through some of these threads, you'll see lots of timelines from Calif. buyers.

Someone posted pics and a map a couple of years ago. I responded to the post, so you might be able to narrow the search that way.
It's a bright international orange building, so you can't miss it.

They'll call you a cab too to get to the airport. It's literally 2 exits from the airport and you can hear the planes taking off.
From Zurich downtown take the a-bahn towards the airport and exit at Glattsburg about 15 km (not quite 20 mins). Turn left at the bottom of the exit and go straight throgh town. You'll see a couple of Shell stations and then you'll be on a overpass (railroad tracks) soon as you cross the tracks, you'll see the bright yellow-gold building on your right. Turn right onto the side street and you're there. Be careful because on the maps, it appears the tracks cross over the road, but you don't (it's an overpass). I was looking for tracks and didn't see any but luckily saw the bright colored building.
Here's a picture of part of the building.

Nav system took me straight to the Gondrand drop in Zurich. It is indeed very easy to get to. Quite close off the highway exit. They called me a cab - got me to the airport in about 5 minutes. Cost: 15 Euros. Entire drop-off process took about 20 minutes.
You can email Gondrand (info in your packet from BMW), and they are very responsive. It's easy - don't worry about it.
I emailed them ahead of time to tell them when I wanted to drop the car - they confirmed time & date very quickly.
Attached are pics of my car in their parking lot on Jan 26, 2006, and the Nav screen that got me there.

Check the schedule because the trains run only about once every 1/2 hour (but, right on time!)
If you're spending any time in Zurich, you should consider dropping the car when you arrive, not just before you depart. The streets are no fun for a new car.
