ED vs. Dealer Delivery – Shipping Question
Can someone in the know please highlight the differences between how ED cars are prepared for shipping to the US versus cars that are ordered by dealers? I’d be interested in exactly what happens to a car from the end of the assembly line until it arrives at a US dealer under an ED situation and a under a dealer allocation order situation. Are the ED cars prepared for travel in the same manner (cosmoline, seats wrapped in plastic, suspension spacers, etc), or do they just drive them onto the ship and sail west?
I’m asking because I’m seeing posts about cars being damaged in transit (scratches, water spots, etc.).
My apologies if this point has been discussed before (I didn’t see it). If so, can someone please direct me to the post?

The only difference is that POVs have a higher priority to get onto a vessel (if it comes down to limited space availability).
Scratches can happen regardless of whether the car is a POV or new.
Regarding preparation, since new cars (as opposed to POV) come with cosmoline (in most cases, not all) from the factory, clearly one would not expect a POV to be shipped with cosmoline also. If the seats are wrapped in plastic prior to the PDI, since the PDI takes place in Freimann, the plastic will of course be removed.
I would also recommend you locate my post showing photos of my car as it goes through the various phases of prep at the VDC after it is offloaded from the vessel.

I´ve been through the VDC several times and watched my car go through its paces (with other POVs) in December. They don´t however bring the POVs into showroom shape and if a car arrives in particularly grungy condition the gentle washing it gets won´t really make a big difference.
The procedure is the same at all VDCs.

My last 2 EDs were definately not washed at the VPC. They were both extremely dirty upon arrival....autobahn bugs, thick brake dust, etc. Even a "gentle washing" (whatever that means) would have gottem them cleaner than they were.

My 3 ED's didn't get washed at all.
