Zurich Drop Off: Best To Drive Via Austria Or Germany?
Greetings to all!! Am scheduled for ED pickup of a 750(i) Monday, February 27, 2006. I intend to arrive to Munich by train from Zurich, where I will be landing a few days prior. Will have to drop off the car in Zurich and fly back from there to Los Angeles. To those of you who dropped a car in Zurich already, could you please tell me which is hte most pleasant route to take? All the way to the Swiss-German border or drive via Austria to Switzerland? (This time of year we are trying to avoid mountainous terrain if possible).. Any suggestions for spefic route plan and panoramic STOPOVER points? Last but not least, which city you think would be less boring on a Sunday; Zurich or Munich? (I am trying to decide whether we should stay in Zurich one more night or not before arriving in Munich...) Your valuable input will be highly appreciated!!! Giacomo | München is much more interesting than Zürich on a Sunday. Don´t prolong the agony and stay in Zürich.
Regarding the drive, hopefully you do not have summer tires as either route can be very snowy and you are probably aware that German law requires winter tires in snowy/wintry/icy conditions. You can drive to Lindau for an interesting stopover - go to the lighthouse, great view - and continue across the border to CH.

It is just that I went to school in Zurich in the 80ies and know Switzerland well. Germany, little. Also I thought the Swiss are much more keen to having leisure activities on a week-end than the Germans. I looked at pictures of Munich and they don't seem as colorful as the ones of Zurich and the surroundings, which I know well.
In any event, what does one do in Munich on a week-end, when one has time to kill?
Also, where is one supposed to drive to in Munich if one remains there 1-2 days after taking delivery of the car?
Best Regards, Giacomo

Best Regards, Giacomo | The Germans are nothing if not expert on weekend leisure activities. Trust me on this. I´m Austrian, but went to Uni there (in München).
Regarding what to do on a weekend, meaning if you stay in town, that really depends on personal interests. I could spend 6 mos. in München and go every weekend to different museums (not including Schlösser and such) and still not have everything covered. Then there´s shopping, nearby skiing, mountain climbing in the warmer weather, swimming, lakes, the list goes on and on.
I think that the people are much more friendly in München than Zürich but that´s just my opinion, not having spent much time in Zürich.
