My wife and I are picking up our new 330i on the morning of 3/10. We are scheduled to take the Munich factory tour in the afternoon, and are trying to decide whether to leave Munich after the tour and drive a couple hours towards nice or to leave the next morning. A couple of questions:
1. What would be a good location to stop for the night if we leave on Friday afternoon? Is there going to be alot of traffic with people leaving the city to go to the mountains for the weekend?
2. If we leave early on Saturday morning what would be a good place to stop for lunch/sightseeing? Milan? Lake Como area? Or, are there any other small towns that would make for a nice 2-3 hour break?
Thanks,
dave

It's a long drive so I would definately suggest taking two days to do the journey. Stop at either Lindau or Como. Further on, the drive South towards Genoa, on either of the two Autostrada leading to the coast is one of the finest anywhere in Europe for "bonding" with your new car! Taking the twists and turns through the mountains at a good speed, the drive over countless bridges and through so many tunnels is just perfect for understanding not only the capabilities of your new vehicle but your own ability of handling it.

dave | It is a very long drive. We went around the same time as you but more torwards the end of March and the weather was good except for rain the day we visited the castle. We went from Munich to Fusen to visit the castle and then drove to Leco to spend the night. We must have left Fusen at 12pm and got to Leco at 6pm. I would recommend spending the night in Lake Como or surrounding small towns which are breathtaking.

Any one have any hotel recommendations under $100 per night in either Lindau or the Lake Como area?

I think Lindau is a great stop along your route btw. Make sure you go up to the top of the lighthouse on the Insel.
