ED Delivery Questions
Hi guys - Am thinking of ED for my order. Car would be '04 330i 4D 6MT in SB/Gray Leather with SP PP HID and Park.
I have some questions that I've not seen on the BMW NA web site, so I thought I would ask the "experts"
1) Where specifically are the drop off points in Europe?
2) What sort of "savings" can be made on a car order -- who do you negotiate the price with etc?
3) At what point is full payment made - at order, at ED pickup point, at US pickup point? In other words when in the process do you take "ownership" of the car?
4) What kind of leverage do you have at the ED pickup point if there is a problem (stain on seat, rattle in clutch, whatever) with the car? Can you refuse the car?
I admit the idea of ED sounds interesting/fun, but without knowing the cost savings involved its hard to weigh the risks.
Any info appreciated.

ED is a great way to go. I had a great experience when I bought my car through Ted at Carbone BMW (he has since become a big contributer here).
The drop off points are all listed under the ED section of www.bmwusa.com.
The savings comes from the fact that there is a European Delivery invoice price. From that, you can negotiate with a dealer a price. Typically $1000 to $1500 over the ED invoice. For example, the USA MSRP on my wagon was 41500. The ED invoice was 35500. I struck a deal with Ted to process the paperwork and take delivery of the car in the US.
Payment is due 30 days prior to taking delivery in Europe.
I haven't heard of a customer who was displeased with the state of the car when it arrived stateside (it still goes through the same vehicle processing center).
It's an awesome way to get your new bimmer. (don't forget, the BMWCCA rebate still applies, even to E.D.)

In THEORY, I'm sure you'd have no problem. If the car doesn't work properly, I see no reason why they wouldn't fix it (but that WOULD put a serious damper on your vacation if they had to hold it -- what would they put you in instead?). I have no idea what the European Delivery center's policies are on this sort of thing.

As far as the price you pay, check out the following link:
http://www.eurobuyers.com/pricing/rev3s03.pdf
Scroll down to the second sheet and look for the line that is "Base Price Euro Delivery Price Munich Delivery". This is what your dealer pays for the car (not including the delivery charge). Take this amount and add the invoice price for any options. Then add in delivery and about $1,000 for dealer profit. This is what you'll pay for the vehicle. The ED invoice for a standard 330i is $29,450.
| | Reply » ED Delivery Questions | I did ED a little over 2 years ago... I also highly recommend it -- it was a great way to buy a new car!
To help with one of your questions: When I picked up my car in the US, I did notice a small grease stain (looked like a thumbprint) on the driver's side interior A-pillar that was not there when I dropped the car off in Europe. The dealer had me bring the car back in a couple days later and had it cleaned. So I wouldn't worry about little things like that -- they will get fixed!

You say to add in "delivery" any ideas on how much this is or is it a negotiatable amount? (I guess I was not expecting to pay delivery as I would be picking up the car )
When I get back to the states I'll ask my local dealer how much experience he has in ED and confirm the prices...again, thanks.
