Can you ED for another person?

My father is turning 60 this year and wants to get himself a 330. We're all going to be in Europe for a wedding in June and I thought it'd be perfect to do an ED. Unfortunately it turns out that he doesn't have the extra 2-3 days it will take to make it to Germany. Fortunately he asked me if I'd go pick it up for him .... is this allowed? Obviously we have the same last name, but do I have to be on the registration for the car? Does anyone here have any experience with this sort of thing? (Apologies in advance if this is covered somewhere else, I searched and did not find)

No, but if you become a co-purchaser, you can then have the European Delivery purchase order written up in your name as far as I know.

Even identical names will not cut it.

A copy of the purchaser(s) passport(s) will be made by the selling dealer and forwarded to the ED center. When you show up at the ED center you will be required to show your passport and it will be crossmatched with photocopy.

I am sure you will understand why they have to take all those precautions. I am sure you would not want them to give your $40,000 car to somebody that walks in and says "Hi, I am lukatmyshu so please give the keys to my car."

I had hoped that if we worked it out at the dealer (i.e. faxed him MY passport instead of my fathers) then it would be possible. Oh well ... time to investigate how difficult it would be to become a co-purchaser.

Purchase in your name, when you come back, give it to him or sell it to him for a $1.

Does anyone know the law about transferring something like this between family members, my parents gave my nephew a car a few years back, he didnt have to pay any taxes? Maybe a limit, I dont know, maybe a lawyer here does
