 License laws?

I'm 16 with my permit and I'll be 17 with a license (pending my completion of the test of course) on June 1st. I told my dad of the wonders of ED (he's looking into getting a new bimmer), and he's seriously considering it. Would I be able to legally drive in Europe with my license? It is technically a 'Proivisional License' I think. The restrictions as far as I know are that I can only drive between 5 A.M. and 12 Midnight. I'm not sure about out-of-state restrictions. I live in NJ if that helps. Thanks for your help! I really hope I'll be able to drive on the autobahn

I am fairly sure the legal driving age in Germany is 18, and there may be an age limit on the included insurance policy, but I can't answer your question with certainty.

Pretty sure no. Same situation with us.

while ur license may be valid in europe, i don't think gerling will insure u since ur under 18. y would u want to drive on the autobahn after recently obtaining ur license at 17? u'll have plenty of time after college and gaining driving experience on american road.

I just emailed DriversEd.com to see if my license is valid there. I didn't think about insurance though. I think it's pretty obvious why I'd want to drive on the autobahn with a new 07 bimmer . Of course I'd be a little on the slow side and might not get the 'full' experience a 5-series (or 3-series, not sure which yet) can give me. The thing is, after reading about ED I figured it'd be a great chance to drive a great German car on Germany's famous road while saving a few grand on a car we were planning to get anyway.

Oh and controlling the car shouldn't be a problem. We currently have a 528i/A and I've gone 80-90 (only for a short while in between groups of cars on the freeway). It's great - feels like I'm going 40.
