Where to park in Europe: Please share your experience

I have not noticed a dedicated thread of how and where to Park your brand new ED Bimmer. Perhaps folks can chime in.

1. I have been contacting some Starwood properties in Italy and the daily parking rate is between 25 to 30 Euros. Not cheap. Can we do better in other hotels?

2. How to visit Venice?
Since you need to park somewhere outside the city, what are the better options?

3. How to visit Rome?
Since driving in Rome is not recommended, where can one park their car apart from paying an arm and a leg at your central hotel? I am looking for a place with easy public transport access to central Rome and safe enough to park for a few days while you explore the city?

4. Nice?

5. Paris?

Add on please...

.

If you're in a city, especially in Italy (where parking is even more limited), I suspect you're going to pay out the nose. In Munich, however, I paid (I think) 10e/night at the hotel I stayed in, and that seemed in line with other places with protected parking.

It probably doesn't help you, but I feel that using ED to go from big city to big city is a bit of a mistake, because you're not driving as much and you have to worry about parking.

For Venice, stay at Lido island. You do have to pay 60 euros in Ferry fees.

For me, when I'm on vacation, I pick what's convenient and if the cost is reasonable (10-20 euros fees) I just do it.

We will be travelling with a 7 month old, so we can not drive too much. Our main aim is to visit Italy.

I have heard horror stories about driving in Italian cities so I do not want to drive all over. We would prefer to park in a safe place and live in a hotel in the heart of the city, using public transport.

The two must do cities are Venice and Rome. We would like to drive through Tuscany along the coast.

Our plan is to drive to Venice. Park at a safe spot. Then go live in the city or on Lido Island for the next two days. Then again drive to Rome, park in a safe spot, then live in a hotel in the heart of Rome for 2-3 days before going up North.

arnolds: I would willingly pay 10-20 Euros/day. But when the parking fee starts hitting 30Euros, I feel it is worth it to explore alternatives. Driving in Italian cities is not that much fun any way since the traffic is bad.

Is Italy so bad ? People in France was staring my car as if BMW 3 Series is upscale car. German's were not even looking at 3 Series...
