Any recommendations for lodging around Frankfurt/Weisbaden/Mainz; hotels are scarce during the world cup when we're picking up our car...we have friends to visit June 10-12...any small/safe locales where our car is safe in that area? Help!

Try looking for hotels on http://www.venere.com/, and read the reviews...it should also indicate if the hotel offers parking.
I've never stayed in Frankfurt proper, but I used to travel to Darmstadt on business, which is about 30 minutes bit outside of Frankfurt there were a few good hotels there.
