I am planning ED June 23, 2006 and want to visit Prague. Anyone ever do it? I was told by a woman from Germany that nice cars are a target to be stolen in the former eastern block countries. Any comments? Thanks.

I drove to Prague a few weeks ago in my new 325xi (ED write-up here). If nice cars are a target in Prague then there are a lot to choose from. I stayed at the Renaissance . There were 4 brand new Mercedes and a Porsch parked in front on the street.
You will not get a second look in your car. I parked in the hotel's secure undeground lot, but that was not really neccessary. I had people give me the same warnings about Prague. Unless they have actually been there, I wouldn't listen to them... IMHO

I would not take your car to Prague. There is a big theft problem in Eastern Europe - and the thieves love BMWs. Remember, there is a 10% insurance deductible on theft claims (0% on accidents) - guess why?
Instead, you should consider doing what we are doing - fly direct from the US to Prague before ED, then take the 6 hour train from Prague to Munich.

We plan on going from Poland to Prague and staying there for 2 nights. You can't live your life in fear of your car being stolen. That is why there is insurance. I would worry more about having car issues somewhere enroute.

I went over to Prague in a brand new rental last summer and had no problems at all. I stayed in a decent 3 star (Best Western, in the heart of the party district) that had underground parking. Most places will charge around 20 euro a night extra, but well worth it since you have to pay street side parking anyways. Believe me there is alot worse places in Europe you can park a new BMW than Prague.

I made the drive from Zurich to Prague last June. I had heard the warnings too -- but when I got there, I saw many expensive German cars parked on the street (A8's, MB 500's & 600's of various flavors, BMW 7's). Would I drive my own BMW there? Sure - that's what insurance is for ... I think the warnings are a little over the top.
BTW - you have to buy a highway vignette at the border, just like you do for Austria and Switzerland. Don't recall exactly, but I think it was 20 Euros. Roads were fine.
