 getting the ED ball rolling...Q's

BMW fan for some years, CCA member for 10 yrs and am finally putting the pieces in place to do an ED mid May. I have had the pleasure of visiting the BMW facilities in Munich several times in the past and traveling much of Europe, but this will put a whole new "spin" on things.

After driving 550 and 530 sports (6 spd) back to back I have settled on a loaded 530.
Why? Because I really want the goodies and with the 6 cyl it fits the budget! And that near Civic gas mileage while only being slightly slower than my '00 540i6 is truly amazing.

Car will be:

MY 2007 530i, six speed
Titanium Silver (I know, I know, but it will be my third in this combo, can't stop )
Black Leather
Anthracite Wood (black)
Cold Weather
Sport Package ('07 incl Comfort Seats & M Sport steering wheel)
Premium Package
Nav + HUD
Sunshades
Split Fold Rear Seats

Just trying to juggle the whole turning in my old lease, and making several payments on a new car before I see it.

The truly easy part is that there is a direct Lufthansa flight from my city (Charlotte) to Munich every day and of course the two for one cost is a blessing. To sweeten the deal even more, I have a relative who works in the Munich 4 cylinder building who has offered me something out of his press pool (M Roadster more than likely) to drive if I want to keep the miles off my new car. Yes, I am serious and very thankful! Danke Craig!

It will be a whirlwind trip, leave Thu night, arrive and pickup car Fri am, back home Sun.
Or, leave Sun night, pickup car Monday am, back home on Wed.
Just for heck of it and the priceless photos.

Anyone else do something so crazy?

MY QUESTIONS ARE:

1) Can I drop off on Sat/Sun? Preferably Sat night I guess.

2) I really want to keep my euro plates. Do I take them off and smuggle them home or will they be in the trunk when the car gets back to the dealer?

3) Time to the East coast (I am 1 hr from the VPC in SC (BMW factory)) running 4-5 weeks on avg?

TIA all, I am greatly looking forward to this as it all seems to be coming together!

Remember, BMW makes a lease payment for you when doing ED, in exchange for a slightly higher money factor.

I had a 4-way pickup, and I thought that was a little crazy at the time, but it turned out to be one of the most fun vacations I've ever been on.

1) You can work out a weekend drop-off by leaving a key and filling out the paperwork on a weekday. Call or email HARMS to work it out.

2) I took one plate with me and the other plate was on the car at redelivery.

3) 4-5 weeks on average for EC delivery, except if your car gets stuck in customs.

Good luck, you'll have a lot of fun and be really tired, but it will be worth it.

1) Yes you can. After picking up the car, it is generally thought a good idea to drive to the Harms office, so you don't have to fumble or get lost in the typically tight schedule on the departing date. If you do that, tell them you want to drop off on weekend - they'll let you know what to do.

The biggest issue will be to arrange transportation from Harms to the airport on a weekend. Harms will be closed so you need to make the arrangements beforehand. Harms can give you a phone # and you can call them right there and then and schedule a pickup time - and you better be there on time, they don't wait.

2) Take off your front plate when you leave the car. The screwdriver is in the toolkit in the trunk. Leave the rear plate on the car.

Sounds cool--especially the part about having a relative who works there! I'm not sure that I would take the loaner car-- part of the fun of ED is in driving your own car on the great roads they have there (and its not likely you'll put that many miles on in 2 days)
