Just watching the news (ZDF Heute in Europa) on TV. Opening headline: Schnee und Glatteis haben auf Deutschlands Straßen zu chaotischen Zuständen geführt. (translation for non German speakers: Snow and sheets of ice, or black ice, led to a chaotic situation on Germany´s streets) The news reader went on to comment that there were more than 100 accidents on the A45 bei Lüdenscheid alone with 3 people killed. Many airports in the south and west were also closed.

Thanks Jspira, my wife has been second guessing our decision | Tell her about the accident (early December years back) I had en route to München coming back from Vienna (right near Amstetten) - and I had 4 brand new snows on my car and was not going fast. The police said there were almost 2 dozen accidents near where mine was.

I did ED 1/10/2005-1/22/2005 in 12 days the temp was in the 40's during the day and in the 30's at night with one day of snow showers.IMO at this time of the year weather is a hit and miss thing.I would plan on going again at that time of the year, its cheaper and less people to contend with. As you can read from the many posts they clear the roads very quickly and you don't have many problems as you would have in the States. Good Luck, enjoy cheers vern
