Damage after Redelivery - December Arrivals

Quote:
Increasingly I am finding too many ED cars delivered in bad shape.
Me too. Can you guys who's picked up their cars during this month of December post if you had what looks like shipping damage? Seems to be a few out there already and now that a bunch of ships have arrived or arriving for December, lets do a quick survey to see the extent of the problem.

Post the following.
1. Ship
2. VPC
3. Drop off date/Location
4. Redelivery Date
5. Dealer's response.
6. Pictures of damage.

Thanks!

The point that needs to be made is that the customer needs to plan a full day for vehicle redelivery in good weather and daylight to ensure a proper inspection. If the weather is poor in any way (cold, wet, windy, snowy), then have the dealer bring the to a well lit indoor location for inspection. Make a written checklist and take it with you so you don't skip things in the excitement of getting your car. Take a buddy with you to have an extra pair of eyes.

Some things to inspect:

1) Bumpers (including the underside of both front and rear)
2) Wheels for curb rash
3) Tires (for excess wear)
4) All panels (visual for scratches, touch for foreign residue)
5) All glass (for scratches )
6) Interior door panels, trim, dash, headliner, seats (for scratches/scuffs/stains)

Correct. I would also recommend taking your better half/friend for redelivery for extra pair of eyes.

We need to expand this list of things to do/check before taking redelivery. In the end the list could be made sticky. Just to add to above list, 2) above should include "check if the wheels are same". Someone's wheels were changed.

I was on the Sirius leader. I had chip damage to the front of the car I know was not there when I dropped it off and scratches on the rear bumper. I picked it up at night but the car was in the showroom, hopefully I didnt miss anything.

The dealer initially seemed to suggest it was normal wear and tear but he acknowledged that it was reported at the VPC and I could reproduce the drop off sheet which said no damage. The dealer will fax me the VPC sheet and I will have to go through insurance. Do you guys think I should insist the dealer takes care of it?
