I heard people say "you have to go to a dealer experienced with the European Delivery process". Is this necessary? I mean it's placing the same order, just with ED isn't it?
What can go wrong?

In my experience, it's not really what goes wrong- but rather things like ED pricing.
For example, there is specific ED Invoice and MSRP pricing - an experienced dealer knows that he can sell the car for x amount over ED Invoice- whereas a dealer who doesn't know that, will say that your already getting a good price with ED MSRP- there's no need to discount it any more.
Also- they may not know things like whom to contact in Germany to set up ED / how long it takes, etc.... but in my opinion- I learned everything about ED on this forum- I then went to my dealer already prepared on the entire process, so even though he was experienced with doing EDs - at least I knew what to expect and do....

That said this forum serves as a great source of info....don't finalize your order without checking in here first. (if you're worried about some details)
On my second ED from the same dealership the new finance guy mis-calculated the lease. He used the lower ED MSPR which made my residual value less and my payments higher. He should have used the US MSRP....I caught the error later that day and had to re-sign the docs.

That way we can sit and hammer out the details.

What can go wrong? | Judging by Surfsale´s recent experience where the salesman forgot to order an automatic transmission on his car and left him upset and in limbo over the holiday season, I would say that having a very experienced salespeson involved in European Delivery is critical. Not only is the math different (residual wise), but the amount of information you will get (or misinformation you will get) from someone who has never done this before versus someone who has done this many times will make the difference between a painfree, enjoyable trip and experience and one might be upsetting to say the least.
