February ED 650i with Sport Package

Let me start by saying I know it doesn't make sense to pick up a car with summer tires/sport package in Munich in February, but that is when I have to travel there for other reasons. If I arrive at the delivery center and find condtions to be unsafe to drive, I believe I read somewhere that it is possible to have the car transferred to the drop-off center in Munich to be shipped to the U.S.. If this is possible, does anyone know how to make the arrangements, the costs and can this be arranged before the delivery date so the transporter can work me into their schedual? Also, how is the car transported from the delivery center to the drop-off point? Any advice would be appreaciated.

If you choose not to drive your car to the drop-off center, Harms would be glad to find someone to drive your car to the Harms drop-off location at Garsching. You do need to remenber that you are essentially paying for someone off the record to drive your car to the Harms office, the normal insurance underwritten byGerling Insurance still applies (I think). That is to say YOU are responsible for the damage for your car. Neither the driver nor BMW have anything to do w/ it.

Just call Harms when you have taken delivery and they will pick up the car for a 50Euro fee. I am looking to do the same. I don't think you are at risk for the insurance.

The ,,risk`` only comes up during the drive from Freimann to Garching (where Harms is located). If something were to happen... Gerling would not cover and Harms is not providing insurnace for this part of the transport (to Garching).

Are u sure? If Harms is taking possession of the vehicle at the delivery center, I am sure they would have coverage, otherwise they wouldn't be offering the service.

When I took delivery on Dec 14th, there was snow on the ground and I was offered to have someone from Harms take the car to the drop-off point for 50 Euro. There was no mention of any additional risk that I would be exposed to, and the delivery agent was only apologetic about the 50 Euro charge for this service. It seems like this is a service provided (or at least offered) quite regularly and I was not concerned about mis-handling if I had used this service. I just wanted to drive the car at least a bit, so I took my chances! Don't sweat it, if you get there and it's OK to drive, go for it. If you need to use the Harms pick-up service, don't worry about that. I'm sure it's in good hands. Life is too short to sweat every negative possibility.
